August Greetings, Black Hawk Families!
Updated Back to School information can be found on our website at Families>Back to School
Here we are in the eighth month of 2021, almost two thirds through the calendar year! Whew! We are 18 months post-pandemic emergency distance learning but the effects are still all around us. In order to support students with care, compassion, and intentionality we are starting the year with District Student Success days on September 1st and 2nd. Both are designated half days of school (8:20-11:20 AM) to ease the transition back to a normal FULL DAY schedule on September 8. Busing and food service will be provided.
Additionally, on September 1st and 2nd from 12:30 - 6:00 PM, Panther Time Advisory Teachers will host 1:1, 15-minute conferences in-person at BHMS or via Zoom. We believe the triad relationship (school - student - parent/guardian) is essential to your student’s success.
If your student is unable to attend the first two days of school, please follow typical attendance guidelines by emailing us at BHMSAttendance@district196.org or call us at (651) 683-8521. In the event of their absence, we encourage you to participate in the 1:1 Panther Time Zoom to make a connection before the first full day of school on Wednesday, September 8th.
As always, we are working to improve the experience of every student and family at BHMS. We are VERY interested in what your student and YOU need as we start this new season of learning after a long disruption. Please take 5 minutes to complete this survey for us!
Schoology Support for Parents - This link provides videos to support your understanding of Schoology, our Learning Management System (LMS). Students work in Schoology every day, so we ask parents to create an account or log into their existing account. Schoology is where you can monitor your student’s assignments, work completion, and current grades. Should you need support, contact email@example.com.
Infinite Campus - We refer to our Student Information System (SIS) as “Campus.” Parent accounts are necessary to keep track of important household information, emergency contact information, attendance, and report cards/end of term grades. When you set up your account, you will be required to update emergency contact information. You can request an activation key via the link or contact Nicole Tompkins in our main office (651) 683-8531.
Dress Code - Backpacks - Cell Phones - Please take some time to read over the latest iteration of school community agreements regarding dress code, backpacks/lockers, and cell phones. This is an evolving document and feedback is welcome and encouraged. Some BIG CHANGES are on the horizon for cell phone use at school. Please review this document at home with your student. Of course, we will be reviewing at school as well.
Clothing for PE - Students are expected to change clothes for physical education classes. They should bring a change of clothes - athletic shoes, athletic pants, and a shirt, which can be kept in a PE locker in the locker room. Students should bring a lock from home to secure their items. PE T-shirts will be on sale for $5 at our back-to-school event on August 31. Inventory is limited.
