BHMS Teams compete in Future Cities - Jan 18, 2020

On a cold and snowy Saturday morning two teams from Black Hawk Middle School traveled to Dakota County Technical College to participate in the Future Cities competition. The two teams completed a sim city slideshow, wrote an essay, built a scale model of their city and gave a 7 minute presentation to the engineer judges. It was a quite an accomplishment by both teams to create such awesome projects.

The 7th grade team built their future city where Norfolk, Virginia currently exists.  They rebuilt the city after a major flood- which was the theme for this year – designing a city that could provide water to their citizens after a natural disaster.

The 8th grade team built their city on the fictional Star Wars planet of Tatooine. For three years this team has competed with honor and represented Black Hawk with pride. The city of Tatooine created actual water pods to provide a green way to get water to their citizens.

The 8th grade team won a special award for building the city with the “Most Innovative Constructability”. Their futuristic, solar powered domes stole the show. They won a trophy and $25 gift cards for their efforts. Way to go Tatooine!

The theme for next year is Building a City on the Moon! Join future cities to learn more.
