News from the Principal - April 27, 2021

Hello Black Hawk Families,

As we move into week two of in-person and Digital Learning, there are just two new reminders included in the News From the Principal.  Please take a moment to review drop off and pick up procedures in our upper lot in order to keep us all safe; note how the curbs are painted and remember pick up can extend to the far NW side of the parking lot along the curb extending to the tennis courts.  Make a plan with your student regarding where you park!

Parents and guardians of current 7th (rising 8th) graders!  We are looking for 8th grade WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) mentor leaders.  These 8th grade leaders will mentor and support our rising 6th graders to support their transition into BHMS.  If you have any questions, please contact one of our counselors.

MCA testing is in full swing.  This week, in-person students are testing in their ELA (English Language Arts) class and Digital Academy students will be coming in on Wednesday.  Next week, we’ll follow the same model for math testing.  Should you have any questions regarding MCA testing, please contact Jeff Smith, Assistant Administrator, or Roger Huling, Digital Resource teacher, at: jeff.smith@district196.org or roger.huling@district196.org

Please continue to monitor the health of your student by using the Self Check prior to sending them to school every morning.  We are so happy to have the building feeling full with the buzz of learning; let’s work together to keep BHMS a safe, healthy, and happy place to be as we look towards a strong finish of this school year.

Parents Dropping off Students at School

If you need to drop off or pick up your son/daughter, please use the upper level parking lot. The lower level area is reserved for buses only.

Please do not park in the yellow painted curb areas or center painted crosswalk in the upper parking lot. Please drive with caution and yield to students/district buses using the crosswalk areas.  Keep in mind students will be walking on the center painted crosswalk.

WEB Program

Is your current 7th grade student interested in mentoring our incoming 6th graders next year? If so, they are encouraged to apply to be a part of Black Hawk's WEB Leader Program.  Applications are due this Friday, April 30th.
