News from the Principal - August 30, 2021

We are so excited to welcome students and families back to campus for our Back-to-School Jamboree!    Join us tomorrow, Tuesday, August 31, starting at noon and ending at 7 PM.  Our Jamboree is an opportunity to connect with the BHMS school family, walk the building with student schedules, meet teachers, sign up for co-curriculars, set up your student’s lunch account, enjoy food trucks and much more!  You can find all the details on our Back to School webpage.  Starting at 7:30 Tuesday evening, your student’s Panther Time teacher will be hosting a Zoom meeting for students and families so you can become acquainted with your BHMS Panther Time family.

Students will attend half days on Wednesday and Thursday, September 1 and 2.  Transportation and food will be provided.  Those same days (Sept. 1 and 2), students and families are invited to participate in a 1:1 conference with your student’s Panther Time teacher.  You should have received an email from your student’s Panther Time teacher with information for both the Panther Time student/family Zoom and the 1:1 conference.  If you have not signed up for a conference and would like to do so, you can follow instructions HERE.

Please note the BHMS website can be translated into Spanish and Somali with a quick click of a button at the bottom of your screen.

Our first full day of school will be Wednesday, September 8, from 8:20 AM to 3:10 PM.

Please note the ISD 196 Board of Education approved the 2021-22 COVID-19 Operational Plan for students, families, and visitors to School.  Right now, masking is required in the school environment and on all District 196 transportation.  The plan does note, the mask requirement will shift to a recommendation when the infection rate in Dakota County drops to safer levels.  You can find the updated 21-22 COVID-19 Operational Plan by clicking HERE.  Please reach out directly to Principal Kusch or our school nurse, Britta Nelson, with any questions.

After 18 months of disrupted learning, we want to make sure your students feel safe and secure returning to school.  We know when students feel safe (socially, emotionally, psychologically and physically), they feel a sense of calm and are better able to connect and start building relationships with those around them.  When students feel safe in, and connected to, their learning environment, we can tap into their best thinking and problem solving skills to support them as young scholars. This year, more than ever, we want to ensure we are being intentional about these practices as we return to BHMS as a school family.

As always, reach out with any questions, concerns, and feedback as we enter into this new season of learning together!  We look forward to having parents and families as partners as we navigate the 2021-2022 school year.
