Riding the Wave of Change

Together we are more than halfway through trimester 2 (T2).  Not surprisingly, T2 is playing a challenging hand; distance learning is hard.  None of us are experts in how to live in this world right now.  What we do know is change is constant and we are living it in real time.  When thinking about our return, our focus remains on SAFETY, EQUITY, and ACHIEVEMENT for all students.  Let’s remember to be calm, be kind, be safe, and ride this wave together, asking for support when needed, and looking out for each other along the way.

We can expect to learn more information regarding the return to school in the hybrid model at the board meeting on Tuesday, February 2, 2021.  Please consider watching the broadcast. The meeting will be conducted electronically starting at 5 p.m. It can be viewed live on the District’s YouTube channel. For more information about how to view the meeting, visit the School Board page on our district website.

As soon as the plan to return has been voted on, you can expect updates coming from both the District Office and BHMS.  We know the amount of information disseminated can be overwhelming.  We are here to support everyone in navigating the path ahead.  Reach out if you have any questions.  Please stay alert for updates this week regarding next steps as we plan for the return to the Hybrid Learning Model.

Mental Health Team Spotlight

The BHMS Mental Health Team was created to raise awareness regarding mental health topics, help address mental health concerns, and promote the mental well-being of our students and staff. We recognize the added stress distance learning has placed on families, and we are here to support you in any way we can! Look below to familiarize yourself with the Mental Health Team members:

Mrs. Beck (8th Grade Counselor)

Mrs. Heasley (7th Grade Counselor)

Mr. Fischer (6th Grade Counselor)

Mrs. Nicol (School Psychologist)

Mrs. Estes (Student Support)

Ms. McQuown (School Nurse)

The Mental Health Team recently launched “Brain Breaks,” which are held on zoom from 11:30-12:00 p.m. over lunch. Brain Breaks are a time to make social connections, talk about common interests and play fun games! Information about the Brain Breaks and other mental health events will be posted on the BHMS Student Support Schoology page. Stay tuned for more activities and ideas to help support your student’s mental health!
