News from the Principal - June 10, 2021

Hello BHMS Families,

One more day and the 2020-2021 school year will come to a close.  We are looking forward to celebrating with students tomorrow!  We are excited to announce that on Friday, Rita’s Italian Ice truck will be on campus selling Italian ice for $5 until it runs out!  A special shout out to the BHMS Boosters for helping us make this a reality!  This is our first time hosting a food truck on site!  Students will have access to the truck with their grade level at a scheduled time in the afternoon.  Our planned outside activities in the afternoon are now moved inside as we expect extreme heat and potential rain.

Remember, Digital Academy students are invited to participate in person this Friday.  They should be dropped off at 1:20 PM at the main entrance in the upper lot.  They will be checked in and escorted to their grade level area.  Students are welcome to ride the bus home at 2:25 PM or can be picked up at the main entrance – upper lot.

As we look to the summer months, this is a great time to encourage your child to “unplug”.  I think we can all agree, we are feeling the fatigue of screen time!  A favorite parent educator resource of mine is the Spark and Stitch Institute located in Minneapolis.  This article helps to frame up a supportive way to partner with your child in discussing the use of technology.  Erin Walsh encourages us to take the time this summer to “...engage our kids in the questions that we know are actually incredible gifts: How do we want to spend our time? What demands and deserves our attention? Who benefits?”  Talking with your child about their technology use and understanding their unique perspective is important as we work together in supporting a healthy balance of being able to be “On” and “Off” their screens.

Thank you for your ongoing support and flexibility during this unforgettable year!  We look forward to partnering with you as we move forward together.  Because together, we are better!

There is still time to order a 2021 BHMS YEARBOOK!
