News from the Principal - June 4, 2021

Hello Black Hawk Families,

Here we are with one week left in the school year!  Please take note of a few things as we head into next week.

Our last day of school is Friday, June 11th.  Both in-person and Digital Academy students will participate in a modified schedule in the morning.  ALL students, including Digital Academy students, are welcome to join us on campus for the last hour of the day.  Digital Academy students wishing to join us on campus should be dropped off at 1:20 PM at the upper entrance.  They have the option to ride the bus home or can be picked up at 2:25 PM.  Grade levels will celebrate the end of the year in three separate locations on the school grounds.

Across the building, students are wrapping up learning activities and completing final assignments.  Should your student have any outstanding missing work that they wish to turn in, encourage them to check in with and talk to their teacher about the next steps.  There will be no student support this Wednesday, June 9th.

Bus Passes

Transportation will no longer allow students to use bus passes during the last week of school June 7 -11th.  Please make plans for alternative arrangements.

2021 Yearbook Update

Due to scheduling with our yearbook company, the 2021 yearbook will not be delivered until Fall. BUT that means there is still plenty of time to order! We will be taking orders online through June 11. Place your order today!

Digital Yearbook Signing through Jostens will be available in June! Look for more information at the link below. This is a great way for all our students to participate no matter whether at school or Digital Academy.

Need to check if you have placed an order - check on the yearbook webpage: https://bhms.district196.org/families/yearbook

Information on Fall distribution will be communicated at a later date. If you have questions, please email Ms. Amend, sarah.amend-marshall@district196.org

196Reads! Summer Reading Program

196 Reads! is a summer community book club being offered this summer to all 6-12 students. MS and HS teachers are going to partner up to co-facilitate one of eight different book groups with a mix of MS & HS students. Students will have the opportunity to choose from a list of 8 titles. The list of books and descriptions is included in this link

Book groups will meet virtually 3 times: once as a meet and greet and to plan the group's schedule and two additional times to discuss the book. At the end of the summer, all participants will be invited to an ice cream celebration event. Students will receive a free copy of their chosen title and additional titles if they attend the celebration event. Contact your English language arts teacher for more information!
