News from the Principal - May 25, 2021

Black Hawk Families,

We can hardly believe the year is coming to a close and a rapid one at that!  A reminder that there is no school this Friday, May 28th, and Monday, May 31st; please enjoy a safe and peaceful holiday weekend!

Our final day of school is Friday, June 11th.  In-person and Digital Academy students will participate in a modified schedule in the morning.  ALL students, including Digital Academy students, are welcome to join us on campus for the last hour of the day (drop off and check in at 1:30 PM, upper entrance with the option to ride the bus home).  Grade levels will celebrate the end of the year, in three separate locations on school grounds.  Let’s hope the weather cooperates and we can enjoy some fun in the sun as we say our goodbyes.

You’ll find the nuts and bolts to the end of the year in the newsletter related to technology (keep your iPad and hotspot over the summer!), yearbook distribution (which will happen in the fall - don’t worry 8th graders - we’ll make sure you receive yours with ease!).  As always, reach out with questions and/or feedback as we wrap up this historic year of school.

ActioNOW at EVHS

Today, Tuesday, May 25, EVHS will host the district’s ActioNOW! A platform for voice, celebration, and action for our African American families in District 196 from 6 - 8 PM.  ISD 196 African-American Cultural Family Advocates (CFAs) in conjunction with district staff continue to work together to engage families and expand safe spaces for our BIPOC community members.  Please join us!

Students to Keep iPads/Hotspots Over the Summer!

Students will again be allowed to keep their district-issued iPads and hotspots over the summer. This allows learning opportunities to continue throughout the break  Exceptions include graduating seniors and students unenrolling from District 196.  For more details and guidance around this, please visit the iPads and Technology website which can also be found in the About menu of the district’s website, http://www.district196.org.  If you have questions, contact your child’s school or submit at https://www.district196.org/techhelp.  Thank you.

Band Instruments

Current 6th, 7th and 8th grade students that play French Horn, Euphonium and Tuba need to bring in home instruments back to school by Tuesday, May 25th.  Students with a district owned instrument (Band For All) that are not continuing are also due on Tuesday, May 25th.  Incoming 6th grader band students on French Horn, Euphonium (Baritone) or Tuba and district owned Band For All instruments can anticipate getting their instruments issued to them when school starts.  More details to come.

2021 Yearbook Update

Digital Yearbook Signing through Jostens will be available in June! Look for more information after Memorial Day! This is a great way for all our students to participate no matter whether at school or Digital Academy.

Need to check if you have placed an order - check on the yearbook webpage: https://bhms.district196.org/families/yearbook

Information on Fall distribution will be communicated at a later date. If you have questions, please email Ms. Amend, sarah.amend-marshall@district196.org
