iPad protection plan

It's not too late to sign up for the iPad Protection Plan on MyPaymentsPlus. For $20 per year per iPad, the plan covers accidental damage to district-issued iPads. (A reduced-fee option is available for families who qualify for the Educational Benefits Program. If you believe you will qualify, please first complete the Educational Benefits Program online application before proceeding in order to get the reduced price. No refunds will be issued once the Protection Plan is purchased.)

Simply log into MyPaymentsPlus, search for the word iPad, and sign up for the coverage.

Picture re-take day

Thursday, Sept. 29, is picture re-take day! Any new student or students who missed our back-to-school Jamboree last month and didn't have a school photo taken, should plan to participate.

If you received your student's picture packet and would like a re-take, send the packet back with your child.

Order forms are available in the Main Office. Or you can also order online.

Black Hawk fundraiser

We are about halfway through our big yearly fundraiser, a donation campaign that culminates in a school-wide celebration that our students love - the Black Hawk BLAST this Friday, September 30 (rain date October 6). For more information or to donate, visit bhms.dstrict196.org>Community>Black Hawk Blast

Principal Kusch promised students she would cut off her hair in three stages if our community hits our goal of raising $10,000: one third of her hair at $3,000, two thirds at $6,000 and the rest at $10K. She made good on the first part of her promise - students got to cut one third of her off! (It looks pretty good!)

Donations may be made online between now and October 7.

The last official in-person turn in date where students can turn in donations before school is Tuesday, September 27.

Arts & Activities

We have lots of clubs starting in the next few weeks:

Best Buddies

New club alert! Make a new friend, be a new friend - join Best Buddies! Students have a chance to be a part of a club that helps create a place of belonging, comfort, and fun. Meetings will be one time per month during the school day. Interested in more information or want to join? Talk to Mrs. Young in room 332. Her room is on the third floor by the elevator.

Conservation Crew

Conservation Crew is a youth-led program that engages students in learning and leadership around conservation opportunities at Black Hawk and in the community. The group's first meeting is from 3:15 to 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday, September 28, in Room A103/104.

News from our nurse

Please remember to send a water bottle with your student each day. Hydration improves memory and attention, helps children maintain a healthy weight, and may even reduce the risk for some chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes.

Important Dates

  • September 26 - First full cast rehearsal for the fall play

  • September 28 - First Conservation Crew meeting

  • September 29 - School Picture re-take day

  • September 30 - Black Hawk BLAST!
