Hello Black Hawk Middle School Parents / Guardians and Students,
I hope all is well with you! As we complete week four of distance learning I would like to share with you a positive message from channel 5 sports contact person, Joe Schmit. His message is to the students of Black Hawk Middle School. In the message, Mr. Schmit talks about the concept of “impact” and the little things we all can do that have a profound effect on others. He references Minnesota Twins baseball legend Joe Mauer and the tremendous impact he had on other students during his high school career. This is an uplifting message and a reminder to all of us that despite the adversity we are dealing with we are still able to make a positive difference in the lives of others. I would like to thank Mr. Schmit for taking the time to convey the “impact” message to the BHMS students and sixth grade teacher, Ms. Cullen for her part in facilitating this. Here is the link to Joe Schmit’s Video.
Due to Data Analysis and Instructional Alignment Day on Friday, April 24, there will not be any Distance Learning for the students. Distance Learning will resume on Monday, April 27, 2020.
Take Care,
Richard Wendorff – Principal

MackinVia Update: Many of the eBooks that were single-user have been changed to multi-user through June 30! Thank you to the generous publishers for making this a possibility. If a book you wanted to read was “checked out,” go back into MackinVia to see if it has been changed to a multi-user book. To access titles there, click on the MackinVia app in your resource folder. If you haven't installed the app, you can get it in Self-Service or go to MackinVia.com. To sign in, select “BLACK HAWK MIDDLE SCHOOL, EAGAN, MN.” Your username is your student id number, and your password is your collab password. Type the title you want in the search box and follow the prompts. There are other ways to search for resources, too. Here’s a link to a video from Mackin. https://player.vimeo.com/video/85825759
April is Poetry Month: Embrace your inner poet by entering the DCL annual Poetry Contest during National Poetry Month. Poets of all ages are encouraged to submit original poems by email from April 1–30. Last year, three Black Hawk Students were winners!

National Library Week “Find Your Place at the Library” April 19-25: Even though we can’t physically go into our libraries right now, you can instead find the library at your place! If eBooks and eAudio aren’t your favorites, try browsing through your shelves. Are there any books or magazines you purchased long ago but haven’t had time to read? Are there books you read when you were younger that would be interesting to try again? Remember, DCL has curbside pick-up, too!
Dakota County Library Reminder: The DCL has been incredibly supportive of our schools and community. Here’s a link to the key information about distance learning resources for students, caregivers, and teachers. https://www.co.dakota.mn.us/libraries/Using/Distance/
