Hello BHMS Parents, Guardians and Students,
We are all looking forward to the Black Hawk Middle School Band Concerts scheduled for Thursday, January 23. The students under the direction of Mr. Anderson and Mr. Peterson have been rehearsing very diligently in preparation for the concerts.
Congratulations to the BHMS Math Team on a very successful season! The Panther Team consisting of: Kartik, Sri, Neel, Huy, Luke, Chloe, Everett, and Emilio placed 4th in the district meet. Kartik placed 4th in the individual competition. Thank you to our Math Team advisors, Ms. Dehncke and Ms. Faris.

The 2019-2020 BHMS Speech Team is comprised of 70 dedicated students in grades 6th through 8th! These students have been rehearsing and internalizing speeches that are 5-8 minutes in length. Students work with a coach each week to try different vocals and blocking to enhance their overall speech delivery in preparation for speech tournaments. Each Saturday, these amazing orators, will be up early and well-dressed to participate in tournaments. At the high school level, ISD 196 has a well-known speech presence at both state and national levels. Many of those speech contenders found their start during their middle school speech years! Way to go BHMS Speech Panthers!
The Winter Conferences are scheduled for Wednesday, February 12, from 3:30-8:30 p.m. and Thursday, February 13, from 2:30-8:30 pm. The conference will be with your child’s Panther Time teacher. If you have not registered yet, please do so at this time. Registration is open at http://bit.ly/BHMS-Conferences
Thank you to everyone who came out to support Black Hawk Middle School at our fundraiser night at Cafe Zupas on January 14. Our school will be receiving a check for $117.67 thanks to you! Way to go!
BHMS is hosting a Speech Meet on Saturday, February 1, 2020 and we’d like to provide a concession stand for the participants. Please see the attached link to SignUp Genius to signup for a shift working at the concession stand. Thanks for volunteering!
The Lions Club has volunteered to assist with seventh grade vision screening this year. All seventh grade students will participate in the KidSight Vision Screening program on Tuesday, January 28. Parents will be notified if further vision testing is recommended. Vision screening does not replace a complete vision exam by an eye care professional. Students with glasses or contacts should wear them for the screening. Please contact Molly McQuown, the school nurse, at email@example.com if you have any questions, or if you do not want your child to participate in the vision screening.
